Gift Guide: Mini Tolomeo Table Lamps

New this year from Artemide, the classic Tolomeo task lamp has been miniaturized and rainbow-fied—giving bright color-lovers the chance to accessorize in a signature shade. Each is $250. We think it’s brilliant!

The Bravern: John Howie Steak and Meyer Wells

Newly opened in the Bravern, John Howie Steak impressed us with its warm atmosphere and luxurious interior. In collaboration with architecture firm, Weber Thompson, Seattle’s Meyer Wells created bistro tables and a monumental dining table for the restaurant’s private dining room. Take a look:

Photos of Masins at the Bravern

Last Thursday, we posted about the Masins design boutique opening in Bellevue’s Bravern. On Friday, we got a chance to visit the space, and we weren’t disappointed— it’s an intimate space filled with the well-appointed furnishings that we’re used to from Masins. This post is to kick-off a series of posts over the next few weeks on notable things about the new boutiques and restaurants opening at the Bravern. Check out some pictures of the Masins space:

The Shade Store at Robert Allen | Beacon Hill

Window treatments are often the unsung heros of room design. It seems as though people put off buying them until there’s no money left, or they buy them once in the ’80s and then never look back. Yet, elegant drapery or beautiful roman or grasscloth shades take a room from just OK, to truly polished. And let’s face it, there’s no hiding low quality materials on a window.

That’s why we’re excited that The Shade Store has opened a boutique space in the Robert Allen | Beacon Hill showroom at Seattle Design Center (Suite 182, (206) 763-0100). Their new partnership gives clients the opportunity to use Robert Allen fabrics on many styles of custom window shades and drapery. For interior designers, they also offer a COM program through the boutique.

Check out some of the possibilities:

Beautiful!

Ballet Flats by Kartell

Since attending Project Runway, we’re still feeling fashion-y, so here’s some news that decor lovers and fashion aficionados alike will appreciate: shoes by Kartell! The famed Italian furniture manufacturer—maker of all things lucite (Philippe Starck’s iconic Louis Ghost Armchair, par example), has stunned us with its foray into fashion.

In collaboration with fashion brand .normaluisa, Kartell brings us the Glue Cinderalla flat:

Note the star on the heel!

Bright and happy, we’d love to skip down the street in these cheery chausseurs.

Savvywrap Sustainable Giftwrap

You gotta give it to Seattle—when it comes to eco style, we are the leaders of the pack. A new, local company is doing something great for giftwrap: making is chic and sustainable. Persimmon and Pine founders Mandy Behrens and Julie Lyderson-Jackson were inspired by Japanese Furoshiki, the centuries-old practice of using a folded cloth (called a furoshiki) for practical and ornamental applications. Their Savvywrap is made from materials like hemp, silk charmeuse, soy and organic muslin blends, and can be washed and re-used. A portion of their profits go to benefit various local and global charities. Do something different—and eco-friendly—the next time you give a gift!

Prices range from $30-$32, and can be purchased through the company’s etsy shop.

New at Grain Design

When we attended the Ctrl+Alt+Design event last month, we had the pleasure of meeting the folks behind Bainbridge Island’s Grain Design (1201 Wing Pt. Way NE, 206-965-9302), a collaboration of designers concerned with sustainability and innovation. We got to preview their cool products at the event, but they just launched an online shop from their website where you can purchase things directly from them. Here are the two new products they are featuring:

"Ty ($30) is a simple shower curtain that is non-toxic, and as a #2 plastic, can be recycled at the end of its lifespan. Made from the same PVC-free material used for Fed-Ex envelopes, Ty is durable and breathable – making it less likely to grow mold and mildew."

Cafe America chair, made from recycled chain link fence.

We can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
