Northwest Flower & Garden Show

February 19th, 2009 at 05:00am Guest

The Northwest Flower & Garden Show is here! Every year for the past 20 years, the Washington State Convention & Trade Center is transformed into a lush space with dozens of beautiful display gardens. We were able to get a sneak peek at this year’s show, titled "Sustainable Spaces, Beautiful Places," and we can’t wait to dish about our favorite gardens.

We love the "Click" garden from Shapiro Ryan Design. Using punches of bright green, the garden fused Northwest style with traditional Japanese design.

One of our favorite display gardens was designed by New Yorker Rebecca Cole. Her urban rooftop garden featured beautiful living plant walls and gorgeous outdoor furniture from Smith & Hawken. And we definitely appreciated the natural roughness of her salvaged wood containers.

The last garden we are previewing today is Serene Scapes’ "Get Away to it All!" modern shed landscape. We fell for the bright orange shed, stacked water feature and turquoise planters.

We’ll have preview pictures of even more fabulous gardens soon! The show runs until Sunday, so be sure to check out the gardens for yourself and let us know which ones are your favorites. —Angela Chang

I am a floral teacher in Pasco, WA, are you having a design show this year in February? We have gone every year, but I can’s find anything for this year.

The Washington Association of Landscape Professionals are excited to have a Display Garden in the 2010 Northwest Flower & Garden Show. The WALP Display Garden is appropriately titled “Simply Entertaining.” WALP members Phil Wood with Phil Wood Gardens and David Jensen with Native Green Landscapes are the co -designers for this garden. Stop by and say hello!

When you’re at the show, be sure to check out Seattle Tilth’s garden, “A Family’s Little Farm in the City,” demonstrating how a Pacific NW family can use innovative methods to live sustainably on a small urban plot. We also have a retail booth close to the garden, offering supplies and information to help visitors get an early start to the gardening season. See you there!
